Spitter Zombie Character Guide

Area: The Swamp

Type: Enemy

Counter: Zombie Squad

Where to Find Spitter Zombies

The Spitter Zombie is the Swamp's signature hostile — the ranged threat among the game's six enemy zombie types. It lurks along the waterlogged approaches to the Stilt Houses, where the fishing and gathering routes run. Expect it to open fire long before you are in melee range, which is exactly what makes the swamp feel different from the bandit-heavy forest. The Swamp fast-travel pin makes return trips cheap once you have activated it with Faith.

How to Beat a Spitter

The spitter's attack is a projectile lobbed from distance — sidestep the spit and keep closing, because the zombie is weakest when something is already in its face. Fighting it alone works, but the intended counter is your zombie squad: send the squad in to absorb and pin the spitter while you flank. Marsh terrain and stilt walkways limit your dodging room, so fight where you have footing, not where it stands. Like every hostile in the game, it follows readable telegraphs — the wind-up before a spit is your cue to move.

A four-strong Barracks squad turns the fight into a formality: the squad soaks the spit while you walk in behind it.

Drops and Value

No fixed drop table for the Spitter Zombie has been verified at publish time — treat any loot as incidental salvage rather than a farm target. The real value of clearing them is access: the swamp's fishing spots and gathering nodes sit behind the hostiles that patrol them. Every catch also counts toward the Fish Magnet achievement (50 fish), so a cleared shoreline pays twice. Check back after patches — this page updates as the wiki verifies drop data.

Where It Fits in Progression

The spitter is the game's lesson in ranged threats, arriving with the swamp phase of exploration where fishing and gathering become the priority. It teaches squad play before the endgame, where the Sewers and the Final Battle assume you command fighters and not just a keeper with a weapon. Clearing the swamp routes feeds the production chains the last reputation push consumes. By the time you march back to the Inquisition Base, fighting one spitter with a full squad feels like a formality.
