Weapons & Combat Guide - Squad Battles

Combat in Graveyard Keeper 2: your own weapons, zombie fighter squads and the wave battles that purge the Town.

Quick Answer: How Does Combat Work in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Combat is a real pillar of the sequel, not a side note. You craft weapons for yourself and fight through the Town's streets, sewers and districts; you build Zombie Fighters โ€” armoured zombies carrying spears or bows โ€” and field them in four-strong squads from the Barracks; and you raise towers and fortifications for defense. Battles across the Town run on the six-day cycle, so the game alternates between production days and fighting days.

Know the enemy roster before a battle: Spitter zombies attack at range and Barrel zombies detonate โ€” both punish the same "walk forward and swing" plan that handles Wild zombies.

Your Own Arsenal

The game hands you the crafting loop for personal weapons and armour, and the fight choreography assumes you keep both current. Weapons are produced through your smithing line rather than bought from a single shop, so the same ingots that fund your economy also arm the Keeper. The Warmaker milestone โ€” equipping weapons and gear 50 times โ€” rewards keeping production running instead of crafting one set and stopping.

Zombie Fighters: Spears, Bows and Squads

A Zombie Fighter is a resurrected corpse equipped with armour and a spear or a bow, produced and quartered at the Barracks, which fields them in four-zombie squads. This is where combat and the corpse economy meet: a strong fighter corpse with the right collar and real armour holds a street corner while you flank. Enemy variety โ€” from shield-carrying Door zombies to exploding Barrel zombies โ€” means mixed squads of melee and ranged fighters cover each other's weaknesses.

  • Spear fighters hold the line in melee; bow fighters punish Spitters and other ranged threats.
  • Squads of 4 deploy from the Barracks for Town battles.
  • A fighter keeps one weapon and one armour slot โ€” kit both.

The Battle Calendar

Town battles are a named series on the six-day cycle: the district Purges in Central, Eastern and Western parts, the Sewer Brawl, the floodgate fights, breakthrough operations to the Bathhouse basement and the Port, and the Final Battle. Because the calendar keeps coming, weapons production is a recurring expense rather than a one-time purchase โ€” treat the forge the way you treat the farm. See the armour page for the tower-and-fortification half of the defense plan.
