Area Comparison Guide - Graveyard Keeper 2

The six areas compared: activities, quest counts, fast-travel costs and the order that makes progression smoothest.

Quick Answer: How Do the Six Areas Compare?

The Graveyard is your base and the only area open from the start: burials, autopsies, sermons and the underground Factory and Resurrection Lab all live here. The Town is the restoration project and money engine β€” sixteen houses, eleven shop slots and the order boards that fund everything. The Village, Forest and Swamp are resource and quest satellites: the tavern and farms, the Forest Mine and bandits, fishing and stilt houses. The Inquisition Base and Sewers are the story endgame: the Red Eye choice and the final battle both sit here. Everything past the Graveyard opens through story progression, not gear checks β€” the gate is always a quest, never a grind.

The Graveyard and the Town: Where the Game Lives

Almost every system loops back to these two areas. The Graveyard hosts the corpse pipeline (autopsy, burial quality, cremation) and, underground, the Factory and Resurrection Lab where your workforce is built. The Town is where the corpse business becomes profit: restored houses and shops generate the town orders, and the six townsfolk whose reputation gates the ending all operate here or pass through it. The three Districts Purge battle chains also play out in Town streets β€” which is why the three Town zombie types (the fighter and two enemy strains) are the first combat threats you meet.

The Satellites: Village, Forest, Swamp

These three areas are lighter but each holds something the others do not. The Village trades: Januarius runs the tavern, Herm deals goods, and the Wheat Farm feeds your cooking and brewing lines. The Forest gates progression: the Forest Pass quest and Larry plus the bandits' Dynamite open the Forest Mine, a major ore and tech-point source. The Swamp is the gathering retreat β€” fishing spots and the Stilt Houses supply materials that keep the Town production lines running without buying.

The Endgame: Inquisition Base and Sewers

The story comes home to where it started: the Inquisition Dungeon you escaped in the opening hours. The base area hosts the late-game quest chain, the Sewers hide the Old God, and the Friend or Foe choice over the Red Eye is made here β€” a decision that changes the ending's reputation math from 90 to 100 per townsfolk. The final battle itself requires every main and character quest done, so treat this area as the finish line the other five areas are feeding.
